About us
Meet the Maker | Jessi Mechell
Homestead Collective didn’t start as a brand. It started as a question.
In 2012, as a new mom, I began looking more closely at the products I was bringing into my home. What I found didn’t sit right. The candles lining store shelves were often made with paraffin, a petroleum byproduct that can release toxins into the very space meant to feel safe.
So I started making my own.
What began as a small, personal pursuit alongside my daughter turned into years of experimenting, refining, and rethinking what “clean” should actually mean inside a home. There were several iterations of my business over the years, each one bringing me closer to what felt right, before officially becoming Homestead Collective in 2021.
Today, that same intention still drives everything I create.
Every candle is made with a 100% plant based coconut soy wax, chosen for its clean burn and renewable sourcing. My wicks are made from pure cotton, free from lead and zinc. All fragrances are carefully selected to meet the strictest safety standards, including IFRA and RIFM compliance, and are free from parabens and phthalates.
But for me, it doesn’t stop at the product.
Sustainability shows up in the details most people never see. From sourcing to packaging, I am committed to reducing impact wherever possible, including using plant based, dissolvable packing peanuts that break down naturally instead of sitting in landfills.
-and glass jars with lids to be reused over and over again?
(our melt and pour candle making kits fill 2 of the 8oz jars)
Because the goal was never just to make a better candle.
It was to create a home environment you can feel good about.
Homestead Collective is built on quality, transparency, and trust. And every product reflects that original intention, to make home a safer, more thoughtful place to be.
Welcome to the Homestead.
